Types of mental retardation
Considering the different IQ in children with intellectual disabilities, they are placed in different categories for more effective diagnosis and treatment.
Mental retardation can be diagnosed by measuring intelligence using various tests by a child psychologist.
Degrees of mental retardation
Mental retardation has different degrees, which we briefly mention below.
Mild mental retardation
People with a mild form of this condition have an IQ of 50 to 70.
These people can finish their primary education with difficulty and do their basic life tasks, but they need the supervision of others.
Moderate mental retardation
People have moderate mental retardation and their IQ ranges from 30 to 50.
This group is not able to receive formal primary school education and can only learn some educational skills such as eating food and wearing clothes, and they need full supervision.
Severe mental retardation
People whose IQ is less than 30 are included in this category.
These people need institutional care and are neither trainable nor trainable.
People with borderline intelligence
People whose IQ is between 70 and 90 are in the category of borderline intelligence.
These people look like other people, but they are insulted in the classrooms as lazy students who are not able to understand the lesson.
These people are not able to compete with normal people in the social arena and are abused by others as naive people.
People with an IQ of 90 to 110
Normal IQ ranges from 90 to 110 and people with this IQ can complete primary and high school education and sometimes, if there are favorable conditions, enter university and form the foundation of society like ordinary people.
People with an IQ of 110 and above
People whose IQ is above 110 are classified as “elite”, “prominent”, “intelligent or genius” according to the increase in IQ.
People with an IQ below 70
Those who are retarded with an IQ of less than 70, usually cannot get married because both the family realizes that there are serious problems in them and their future life partner, seeing the individual’s condition, will not want to marry them.
